My current pattern picks for comfy undies!

The current colour theme, inspired by convalescing from a cold on my couch with a book, herbal tea and blanket, made me think of comfy undies!  You know, the ones you reach for when feeling under the weather because they feel like a second skin and a warm hug rolled into one?!

So I thought I'd round up my current fave patterns for comfy undies.

Rosy Lady Shorts by Cloth Habit

These have long been a favourite of mine.  I've sewn plenty over the years because I never want there to be a time when there aren't any sitting in my drawer and ready to wear.

From the Designer: Frou-frou meets everyday in these easy-to-make lace boyshorts that sit at the hips. The legs and waist are finished with elastic lace trim for softness. Designed for a lightweight 4-way stretch lace with 60-70% stretch. You can also try stretch mesh or your favourite jersey.

I'd recommend using an inch wide lace trim on the leg holes for extra softness and also to ensure the crotch piece has decent width.

Montgomery Briefs by Orange Lingerie

My favourite thing about this pattern is the way the back piece/leg edge is constructed.  By doubling the pattern piece you end up with an elastic free edge over your bottom.  Super comfortable and the hug of the stretch fabric keeps it in place.

From the Designer: The Montgomery is a hipster bikini brief designed to coordinate with the Marlborough bra to create a matching set that features:

  • An innovative design that eliminates elastic from the bottom for a smooth profile under clothing;
  • A lace front panel to match the lace used for the Marlborough

I love using stretch mesh for the back fabric.  The mesh we stock is lovely and lightweight but still incredibly strong and supportive.

Betty Panties by Suco by Susanna

With the lovely lace detailing, these are an elevated comfy undie pattern!

From the Designer: The Betty Panties are a low rise hipster style, with a medium coverage back and enclosed gusset seams. The pattern includes several options to use galloon lace and knit fabrics, and mix and match between them, as well as an all knit option for high stretch fabrics.

Choose a soft cotton lycra and stretch lace combo for the ultimate in comfort.

Moontide Period Pants - Sew Projects

Bloating, cramping, back pain - when is there a better time to require comfy undies?!  These period undies are super comfy and practical and also really fun to sew.

From the Designer: The Moontide Period Pants have been specifically designed to wear when on your period.
They are a great eco alternative to disposable sanitary pads as well as tampons. They can be washed and reused, reducing landfill waste.

I use a wide stretch lace trim (40-50mm) for the waistband which makes it nice and soft and prevents any digging in.

Waratah Undies and Period Undies pattern - Muna and Broad

Again, period undies for the comfy win when it's menstruation time! Muna and Broad patterns have a wide size range and the designers know how to best serve feminine bodies with their pattern drafting.

From the Designer: The Waratah Undies and Period Undies are specifically designed to fit large bodies. They feature a wide gusset, full coverage, comfy elastic at the waist, and a choice of fold over or picot elastic at the leg openings. They sit at the belly button and the back rise is slightly higher for perfect coverage.

I've made these with a self fabric waistband and it was the best!  A simple but effective combination of cotton lycra, picot elastic and stretch lace.
